Scanning Assets

Use the barcode scanner to quickly look up any asset in your inventory.

Scanning a Barcode

  1. Open the scanner on your device.
  2. In Camera mode, tap Start Camera and point your camera at the barcode label on the asset.
  3. The scanner reads the barcode and displays the asset's details.

Alternatively, switch to Keyboard mode and type the barcode number, then tap Find.

What You'll See

When an asset is found, you'll see:

  • Asset name and number
  • Current status (e.g., Available, Checked Out)
  • Custodian — who currently has the asset
  • Location — where the asset is assigned
  • Condition — the asset's physical condition

Scanning the Next Asset

After viewing or taking action on an asset, you can scan the next barcode immediately. The camera restarts automatically so you can move through multiple assets efficiently.

Asset Not Found

If the barcode doesn't match any asset in the system:

  • Verify the barcode label is clean and readable.
  • Try Keyboard mode to enter the number manually.
  • Check that the asset has been added to the system with the correct barcode number.

Tips for Reliable Scanning

  • Hold steady — Keep your device still and at a moderate distance from the barcode.
  • Good lighting — Use the flashlight toggle in dim environments.
  • Clean labels — Damaged or dirty labels may not scan. Try Keyboard mode as a fallback.
  • Supported formats — The scanner reads standard 1D barcodes (Code 128, Code 39, etc.) and 2D barcodes (QR codes).
