Barcode Scanner Overview
The barcode scanner lets you look up and manage assets from your mobile device. It runs directly in your web browser with no app to install.
Accessing the Scanner
- On mobile — Tap "Scan Asset Barcode" on the dashboard, or navigate to the scanner from the main menu.
How It Works
The scanner has two input modes:
Camera Mode
- Tap Start Camera to activate your device's camera.
- Point the camera at an asset's barcode label.
- When the barcode is recognized, the asset's details load automatically.
Use the flashlight button (bolt icon) to toggle your device's torch in low-light conditions.
Keyboard Mode
- Switch to Keyboard mode using the toggle buttons.
- Type or paste the barcode number into the input field.
- Click Find (or press Enter) to look up the asset.
Keyboard mode works with USB and Bluetooth barcode scanners (also known as wedge scanners). Connect your scanner, switch to Keyboard mode, and scan — the barcode number is entered and submitted automatically.
The scanner also detects wedge scanner input in Camera mode — if rapid keystrokes are detected (typical of a hardware scanner), the barcode is processed automatically.
After Scanning
When an asset is found, you'll see its details and can take action:
- View the asset's name, number, status, location, and custodian.
- Perform operations like check out, check in, transfer, or audit. See Scanner Operations.
If the barcode is not recognized, you'll see an "Asset Not Found" message. Verify the barcode number matches an asset in the system.
Navigation
The scanner has its own simplified header with a menu that links to all main sections of the application — Dashboard, Assets, People, Vendors, Reports, and Options. You can also change your language and date/number format preferences from the user dropdown.
